Home Ties: An Intimate Study of Adornment for the Body and Home
Home is where we separate our public from private lives and is the setting of our most intimate and personal experiences. Home is an idea that is always in flux moving from one town to another; at the same time stationary a memory of a place that used to be. The preciousness of adornment and its ability to transition from an intimate space to one that is public gives it the perfect opportunity to explore the idea of “home”. Jewelry has the ability to tell people where we come from, who we are, and who we want to be. It can also act as a glamorous cover up altering how people perceive and interact with us. In much the same way our ideas of home tell the same story of where we come from, who we are, and who we want to be. For this reason I would like to invite you to take part in this exhibition exploring the idea of home and adornment.
“Home Ties: An Intimate Study” will be a pop up exhibition of jewelry and adornment that questions and redefines the idea of home. The show will take place the evening the of Northwest Jewelry and Metals Symposium. It will be located on the first floor of a home in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle. This intimate setting of a home will provide the perfect back drop for experiencing this pop up exhibition.
Work will be displayed the night of October 17th 2015 for the opening reception. The reception will be held after the 2015 Northwest Jewelry and Metals Symposium located within walking distance. From 4:30 to 7:00pm.
